April/May/June Workshops
Deepen and enhance your current yoga practice of any tradition. Explore the healing benefits of yoga for women interwoven with yoga, dance, and the goddess metaphor. The goal of this workshop is to give you a solid experiential understanding of yoga, healing the feminine, and embodyment of your higher Self to inspire you to keep your yoga and other spiritual practices fun and integrated in your life! No yoga experience necessary.

Sandy uses the SvaroopaTM style as the foundation for this class and then integrates some of the ideas of Kripalu and of Angela Farmer and Victor Van Kooten. SvaroopaTM yoga uses props to support people where they are tight and enable tension held deep in the spine to release. The teachings of Angela and Victor include grounding through the feet and sitbones, lengthening muscles and creating space, self-massage of the fascia, using breath to release, and using intuition and flow to guide your yoga practice. Lastly, we explore and experience the chakras through asanas, bandhas (energy locks), and dance; and we will end with meditation instruction.

Workshop Details
Sandy does not offer yoga classes anymore but does do workshops by request. Three people are needed to make a workshop happen. Get a few friends together or family members, or email to start a waiting list.

Wear warm clothes and layer them as the style of yoga I teach is slow and very relaxing. Be sure to tell me of any health conditions you think I should know about, especially pregnancy, high blood pressure, asthma, a history of detached retina/glaucoma, fibromyalgia, back/neck/shoulder pain, recent surgery, ... You know your body and your body's limitations best. NEVER do anything that hurts or doesn't feel right. If a pose is being held too long for you or if you ever feel pain or light-headed, take care of yourself and pull out of the pose! When you honor yourself in this way, you get much more out of the yoga than if you were to push yourself.

Courtesy Request
Please refrain from wearing scented lotions or perfumes as some people are extremely sensitive to them. If you are a smoker, please plan to shower and wear fresh clothes before coming to class so that the nicotine does not transfer from your clothing and hair to the yoga blankets. The yoga blankets will have to be washed if you forget, so please don’t forget! Thank you!!!

Supporting Your Daughter
Coming of Age
Learn what our local public schools are teaching and not teaching our children about puberty and sex and consider how you want to supplement the info. Learn empowering information (about female anatomy, STDs, and transgender identity issues) that is not widely available. How do you make it safe for her to talk? Consider and share ideas for affirming puberty and minimizing shame. How do you identify and heal unresolved issues around your body image or sexuality and how do you keep from passing them on to your daughter/children?

Goddess Kwan Yin

is portrayed here in a Tibetan thangka as her male incarnate, Chenrezig, the Boddhisatva of Compassion. This thangka was purchased and framed for Goddess Yoga to invoke the spirit of the Chinese Goddess Kwan Yin and Tibetan Goddess Tara, embodyments of Compassion. Compassion for Self is essential for healing. When women heal and open their chakras, men will heal and open their chakras, feminine energies will rebalance masculine personally and globally. The planet has chakras too and can heal and rebalance as well. It’s that simple! Not easy, but simple.

Dear Women,
I have found the metaphor of the goddess a useful one in my yoga practice and in the developing of my work serving women and girls. My business has evolved and continues to evolve out of my own healing work. Like the Sumerian Goddess Innana, who arose from her descent to the Underworld, I have been completely transformed. I went through a process of stripping my identity as wife, environmental activist, and biology teacher, as I knew it, and found that when I let go of these identities that there were gems within I had forgotten. I found and reclaimed my innocence, charm, trust in the divine, ability to sing, to love, to assert. I found my self-confidence strengthened and more!

SvaroopaTM yoga, the style I teach, taught me how to become self-aware, surrender control, and let go. With these skills and foundation, I was led by my intuition to explore energy healing work which accelerated the healing process. Read my Personal Statement for more details. As a result of these openings, I see more gifts I have to give the world through my playfulness, art, dancing, and singing.

What Yoga Students
Are Saying

Sandy is open-minded with the way she teaches … The class helped me to envision myself doing much greater things…Jade, ACS Student

It was amazing how relaxed I became, and (Sandy was) really helpful in explaining everything…Alison, Ithaca High

Goddess Yoga is my hour to learn how to love and listen to my whole body. I am moved to honor something special about me following every class…I have more confidence and self-respect because of Sandy’s class. Rebecca, 24, CU Grad Student

I practice being, not doing at the class and by the time I leave I find I have been able to restore my energy by shutting off my mind and better opening my heart.
